Here we are at Kunming, City of Eternal Spring, capital of Yunnan province

We arrived at 8.15am. The train was punctual.

After we checked in at our hostel (more about it below) and took a shower (can't bathe on the train last night), we couldn't decide where to go with half a day left. So we asked the front desk for recommendations and she gave us the dulan face and said "U can go here or here...or there." Might as well dun say right? After deciding on the destination ourselves, we asked her for a map of the city but she said must buy for 5 yuan. Duh so stingy map also dun have. Lousy!

Forget it if they don't provide free maps. They're even lazy to give directions so they wrote them on the wall. As if this wasn't bad enough, the directions they gave were outdated!!! After wasting so much time asking for directions along the way, we finally found the bus stop only to find that the shuttle bus they mentioned was not in service anymore! Anyway, we managed to get to our destination after asking around and transferring a few buses. Even the people on the street were friendlier than that bitch from the hostel. Pui!

There are many private cars (or illegal taxis) and tour buses going up to Longmen. I feel it's meaningless to take the easy way out. And so we climbed.

After walking for 1.7km, we bumped into Geoklan Garden lol

We reached a junction with two routes-1.6km uphill or 2.1km round about?

We chose 1.6km up-拼了!

还有多远到龙门啊?
大概两公里吧
(starts to deflate) 还有那么远啊...

That's the chairlift (25 yuan one way) up to Longmen. Similar to Sentosa's Skyride. Looks scary to me though!

We walked the 2km anyway and finally reached the ticketing office. No entrance fee for Xishan but need to pay 30 yuan to go up Longmen.

More steps aheadThrough a tunnel Along the cliff
Many political figures and delegates from all over the world came to Xishan Longmen before. Queen Elizabeth was one of them. A buffet spread was prepared for her here. She came up by the cable car of course.

Some Taoist priests used to live here maybe *shrugz

After climbing for about 3 hrs, we finally reached the top!

The protruding object is said to be the dragon's eye. It is believed that touching it will bring u good luck.

Thanks to the lady who took this awesome shot for us

U can tell I'm afraid of heights

The metal wires at the back did not make me feel any safer so I felt like I was just sitting on the edge of the cliff!

View of Lake Dian and Kunming city from the cliff

I think the 6.1km climb up was worth the view but rs thinks otherwise. He said it was so-so bcos he has seen something similar like this in Taiwan. Hmph.

Lunch was at 老滇味 (Lao Dian1 Wei) near our hostel. Very popular among locals.

I had 砂锅米线 (claypot noodles) while rs had 凉面 (cold noodles). He likes the noodles alot and he said it was his best meal throughout our trip. No photos of the food to show :( If u want to have a taste of what the locals eat, 老滇味 is the best choice. Cheap and good! Recommended!

Nothing beats having a good meal after climbing more than 12.2km. Checking out the photos we took today while waiting for our ramen at Ajisen (味千拉面).

Toufu Ramen (forgot the Chinese name)-20 yuan
Japanese hand-made dumplings 日试手造饺子-9 yuan
Standard Ajisen Ramen 味千拉面-18 yuan
+Free flow of hot green tea

This was the best meal for me throughout this whole trip. Standard of the ramen and the soup is the same as Singapore. The dumplings were nice too. Where else can u get a bowl of Ajisen Ramen for less than S$4? Furthermore, there's no such thing as service charge in China!

Worst hostel I've stayed in China. Lousy service and the staff got attitude problem. The one star was bcos it had a central location, clean rooms and beds. Other than that, everything was bad. Esp the staff.

We thought the room looks ok when we first checked in in the morning. Only to realise the nightmare begins at night...

Firstly, I was trying to bathe and there wasn't enough hot water. They had a notice saying Kunming does not have enough water and I was thinking bullshit I just saw with my own eyes how much water there was in Dianchi. Then, they gave us this terrible room facing the club downstairs and we couldn't sleep at all. There's no air-con in the room so if we close the window, it gets too hot. But if we don't close the window, it's too noisy. Rs approached the front desk to see if they could help us. I didn't go with him bcos I was still washing up. Here's what he told me:

I asked for a portable fan but they say don't have. So I asked them if they have any solution.
Then what they say?
The guy said no solution. This place is like that.
Huh? Bloody hell.
The person's name is Mark btw. Then I said "So u'r expecting us to put up with it is it?" And he repeated "We have told guests that it's noisy at night."
"How come we were not informed abt it? Then at least can give us ear plugs not?"
Wah lao, still must ask them for ear plugs.
Ya lor...Then he gave me two complimentary coffee/green tea coupons
HUH??? He thinks two complimentary green tea can compensate for the distress we're going through? No brains or what!

I was really angry and wished I had gone with him to scold them. So we went to sleep with orange ear plugs in our ears while Pandora Box blasted music throughout the night. At least the ear plugs work but it feels strange sleeping with things in my ears. We checked out the next morning and moved to another room. Remember to tell your friends and family abt our unpleasant stay at The Hump Hostel. Bcos of this lousy accommodation, I didn't have a very good memory of Kunming city.
