Queensland

March 05, 2011

I know I know it's 4 good months into 2011 and I've not posted a single entry. Sorry for the long hiatus! I just completed my first trip of the year and a series of frequently asked questions were "You look tanned. Where did you go? Which part of Australia? Cairns? Huh? Where's that? How did you spell that?" Tired of explaining, I tried to answer in another way "Oh you went to the Great Barrier Reef...and where's that? (Even if I tell you you also don't know ask so much for what.)

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, once and for all this map (courtesy of Quicksilver) will answer your question. Located in Far North Queensland, Cairns is the gateway to the reefs and rainforests. If you like adventure and nature, Cairns is the place to go for your next vacation. Thanks to Jetstar, we got our tickets for S$368pp. Of course, when airlines offer dirt cheap tickets for a particular period, be wary of the weather. Caution: Never go in March (monsoon) and don't book tours on your own, go through your hostel they offer very good deals. Now that the 'where' question is answered, here's what we did in Cairns and Port Douglas...
