Queenstown to Kaka Point via Cromwell: Nugget Point & Roaring Bay

December 26, 2016

On Boxing Day, we picked up our rental car at around 8.45am in Queenstown; it was a 1999 Nissan Sunny. Did some shopping at Remarkables and made our way to Cromwell to pick some cherries. Stopped for lunch (Thai) at Alexandra then a long drive to Balclutha for some more grocery shopping. Decided to cover Nugget Point and Roaring Bay today as the weather forecast was not looking good for tomorrow. Most of the road was gravel and not really worth the effort.

Most of the good cherries were gone

Nugget Point

These rocks looked like pieces of gold to Captain Cook so he named this place Nugget Point.

Spotted a few kayakers down there

Managed to spot only one penguin at Roaring Bay.

Hill View (near Kaka Point) is an affordable place to camp with nice flat grass, plenty of space, hot showers and free wifi near the amenities area. Can't remember if it's $10 for a tent site or $10 pp - regardless, it was a good deal.

From left, that's the kitchen, toilets and reception building. He started to get really unwell and we washed up quickly, going to bed just before 10pm.
