Te Anau to Christchurch via Frankton

November 24, 2013

Got up at 5am to pack up. Had creamy hot coco with warm yummy cookies and refilled our bottles with clear water. It was cold and still raining. Lucky Rosie could send us to take the bus. Below are photos of our stay at Rosie's Backpackers in Te Anau after Milford track.

Slept on the bus from Te Anau to Queenstown. I made the call to alight at Frankton and we stopped at McDonalds to check and reply emails. My partnership visa was approved on my birthday for 1 year and I got an interview from Sentosa. We had $8.40 footlong Subway at 10am and checked out Omega car rental. It costs $39 to drive from QT to CHCH + $40 max insurance + $140 for 1.5 tank petrol. That costs more than $100 pp! We agreed to try to hitch a ride first. Two guys stood in front of us and they got a ride so easily in less than 2 mins. We waited for about 30 mins and William from Holland picked us up. He's on 8 weeks holiday around the world and he is going to Tekapo. He is 60 yrs old and has been working for KLM for 35 years testing  engines. He went the wrong way and had to turn back 52km which means we wasted 2 hours on the road. After we got off at Tekapo, we got our second ride in less than 3 mins. It was a comfortable, big and empty Ritchies bus all the way to Christchurch. We couldn't believe our luck.
